a summer in infrared

A selection of summer photos, shot on infrared film.

A selection of summer photos, shot on infrared film.

This strange effect is caused by the film (Rollei Infrared 400) and the IR cut filter (Hoya R72). When used with the filter, this film is rated at 6-12 ASA. Since it only records infrared light, the subject area should reflect the light and should be lit directly by sunlight.

Medium format shots with the Mamiya 7 and the 65mm lens // 35mm shots with the Contax G2 and the 28mm lens.

greek independence day on infrared film

Well, it was Greek Independence day yesterday, a.k.a. The Big Military Parade day, lest we forget that we need to buy tanks & planes.

It was a good time to shoot some infrared film. Here it is, Rollei Infrared 400, with the Contax G2 and the 28mm lens.

athens half-marathon on infrared film

Yesterday morning was a Sunday half-marathon day in Athens. I decided to load up the Contax G2 with Rollei Infrared film, put on an IR72 filter, and try to get some light and shadow play.

Yesterday morning was a Sunday half-marathon day in Athens. I decided to load up the Contax G2 with infrared film (Rollei Infrared 400), put on an IR72 filter, and try to get some light and shadow play.

I shot three films in two hours, swapping between 1/250 & F/8 and 1/125 & F/11. Developed in HC-110(B) for 11 minutes at 22 Celsius.

It was a quite busy environment and I think I will need to adjust my exposure next time, over-expose by at least one stop.

Here are the contact sheets, as well as selected images.

mountain snow

Aday in the snow, up in Zireia Mountain, shooting 35mm film with three different cameras (not a really good idea).

Just your typical day in the snow, up in Zireia Mountain, near Trikala Korinthias, Peloponnisos, Greece.

I went up there with three cameras, all loaded with black and white film. The Hasselblad Xpan was loaded with Rollei Infrared film, and it had a IR72 filter in front of the lens. The Panasonic super mini (a clone of the Leica mini) was loaded with HP5+, as well as the Contax G2.

It’s a mess shooting with three cameras, but the two of them provided different aspects and greatly different contrast, while the compact Panasonic was just in my pocket for fun. When the sun was shining, I was shooting with the Hasselblad, using the ethereal infrared film to its full potential. When it was cloudy, I switched to the HP5+ cameras.
